Thanks to recent changes made by Manitoba's Minister of Finance, it is now even more rewarding to make a gift to charity! The Province has increased the tax credit you receive on donations made to registered charities.
It all depends on how much you give. For example, on a charitable donation of up to $200, you'll receive a $22 tax credit from the Province (in addition to the federal tax credit). This provincial credit has been increased by 38% over the year 2000 rates. On a $1,000 charitable donation, you receive a Manitoba tax credit of $125 - 30% more than you would have two years ago. Of course, Manitobans know that tax receipts aren't the only reason to give. There are thousands of charitable organizations in our province that enrich our lives and depend on our support. Manitobans have been recognized as among the most generous when it comes to making charitable donations. According to a recent report by Statistics Canada, 29% of Manitobans who filed taxes in 2001 reported making charitable donations - more than in any other province or territory. In the spirit of the season, The Winnipeg Foundation encourages all Manitobans to embrace this tradition of giving and consider making a gift to the charitable organizations closest to their hearts. |
