| The Winnipeg Foundation is part of a broad network of community foundations here in Manitoba, across Canada and around the world.
Manitoba is now home to 30 community foundations, all of which pool gifts made by donors into permanent endowment funds. The income earned on these funds is used to support the communities in which they work. Recently, The Winnipeg Foundation, in partnership with Manitoba Hydro, initiated a grants program for Manitoba’s community foundations. Through the three-year program, community foundations apply for administrative support grants to be used to strengthen their organizations. The amount of the grant received is based on the size of the foundation and its growth over the previous year. Manitoba Hydro tops up by one-third each grant made by The Winnipeg Foundation under the project. Twenty-five community foundations received grants through the program this year. As a member of the Community Foundations of Canada, The Winnipeg Foundation is part of the national community foundation movement. Last month, the Foundation welcomed representatives from community foundations across the country as they met in Winnipeg to discuss social justice issues. The Winnipeg Foundation is proud to be a part of a growing movement that supports communities. |
