| Summer camps provide a great opportunity for young people to experience the world around them, gain new skills and form friendships that can last a lifetime.
Manitoba Pioneer Camp, located on two islands on Shoal Lake, has provided wilderness camping experiences for more than 60 years. Owned and operated by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, it offers 6- and 12-day camps for young people between the ages of eight and 16. It also offers counselor training and leadership opportunities. Young campers experience canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, swimming, archery, cookouts and camp fires – all in the fresh air. They also have the opportunity to see wildlife, and participate in drama, music, games and crafts. Manitoba Pioneer Camp is just one of the camps supported by The Winnipeg Foundation. Last fiscal year, the Foundation made more than $500,000 in grants to local recreation and camp programs, helping to ensure that Winnipeg kids have the opportunity to enjoy this classic Manitoba summer activity. As youth put away their school books and prepare to head off to camp, The Winnipeg Foundation wishes all a fun and safe summer. |
